bahati house lamu shela

Located in the charming little village of Shela, just 100 metres from the sea front, between Kijani and Banana House, overlooking a large garden leading to the sea. Built on 3 floors around an open courtyard, the 5 bedrooms can sleep up to 10 people.

Each room is self contained and has a king-sized bed. There are sitting areas on each floor to provide privacy to everyone. The rooftop terrace overlooks the sea and dunes and provides additional lounging areas with a Moroccan style corner and a swing bed. The house staff is composed of a cook and room steward. Laundry is provided.

Set in an archipelago of coral-fringed islands, Lamu Town was a trading centre for spices and ivory for over one hundred years. This tradition has contributed to the Swahili culture, a mix of African, Arabian and Indian influence. There are no cars on the island and transport is by dhow (traditional African sailing boat), donkey or on foot.

Shela Village is a tangle of narrow sandy lanes, stone houses covered with makuti thatched roof, mosques, ruins and spacious squares edged with small shops. Shela Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the World. Its crescent shape offers 12km of golden sand on the Indian Ocean. It is safe for swimming.
